We would like to thank everyone who came to watch ‘Ocean’ at Theatr Gwaun last Friday. TBG, supported by Climate Cymru presented this amazing, very revealing and hugely important documentary as part of GreatBigGreenWeek.
We all had a great night and it was amazing to see our local cinema sold out. It was an honour to see David Attenborough on the big screen but the film was as upsetting as it was breathtaking.
I think we can all agree that educating ourselves about what exactly is happening to our world is the most important thing we can do.
The UN Ocean conference took place last week and perhaps we can be quietly optimistic: The ‘High Seas Treaty’ was signed two years ago to put 30% of the ocean into protected areas. Prior to this year’s conference only 27 out of 60 states needed to bring it into force had ratified. Over the last week the figure jumped to 50, and a dozen more agreed they would ratify by the end of the year. The UK said it would begin the process before 2026 – come on UK, we are surrounded by the sea and should have been the first country to ratify!
Let’s be hopeful and let’s demand more action from our elected politicians to help nature.
